Daut Tihić (1962) and his family were able to see what was happening and what was being prepared at the beginning of 1992 because they lived close to the Serbian border in the village of Liješće, the local community of Skelani.
In 1993, he separated from his brother Ismet (1955) while heading towards the territory under the control of the Army of the Republic of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Ismet was killed, but Daut managed to get to the free territory after fifteen days spent in the woods. The remains of Daut’s brother have not been found to this day.

Daut’s testimony is documented within the multimedia project, “Memento: Fragments of the Srebrenica Genocide,” which is produced by the Srebrenica Memorial Center and the Post-Conflict Research Center.
